Dr. Meek has over 14 years of counseling experience in educational and community settings. Among others, clinical issues particularly relevant to this population included adjustment, substance abuse, and sexuality.
Over the course of his doctoral studies, Dr. Meek continued his clinical work with individuals, families and adolescents in community based agencies and settings. His training and experience in family counseling was carried out in a clinical setting that was based on a model of family and school collaboration, which afforded him opportunities to successfully collaborate with schools and other community agencies. Through this collaborative model, Dr. Meek was able to structure and implement therapeutic interventions for families, which not only centered on behavior management and change, but also strengthened emotional bonds and relational processes.
Trained in person-centered, existential, and interpersonal approaches as well as structural family therapy, Dr. Meek engages an integrative theoretical framework in his work with clients which incorporates postmodern theory and careful consideration of contextual features related to race, social class, and gender.
